Collective Capsules

Collective capsules: what if we extended FuturMoi to the people we love?!

FuturNous: writing together to who we'll become

There's something unique about receiving a message from the past. A time capsule is exactly that: a note slipped into an invisible envelope, sealed until the chosen day. 📆

Collective capsules: same idea, but together.

The idea in one sentence

Everyone writes their part. Everyone receives the whole thing, at the same time, on the chosen date.

🤩 That's it. But within that simplicity lies something remarkably powerful.

How it works

One person creates the initial capsule. They choose a send date (in three months, a year… ten years?). They also set a window during which co-writers can contribute: a few hours, a day, a week at most.

Once the capsule is created, they receive an eight-character code. 👨‍💻 That code, they share with whoever they choose — by text, by email, or slipped in person.

Co-writers join the capsule. They enter the code on FuturMoi, choose their words, and can, if they wish, add a photo, a voice message, a video. Each person writes on their own, without seeing what the others have written.

The window closes. Once it does, nothing more can be added. The capsule waits, quietly, for the chosen date.

The Big Day 🎯

Everything arrives. Each participant receives a single message containing everyone's contributions. The words of your family, your friends, your closest companions — gathered into one letter from a shared past.

Who is it for? 🤔

The use cases are many. More than you'd expect at first.

🎉 A milestone birthday?

Ten people writing to someone turning forty in a year or a few months. They don't know. That morning, they'll receive a letter in ten different voices, all born from the same memory.

🌎 A scattered family.

A parent sends the code to their adult children. Each one writes from their own country. In five years, when the children have grown, they'll all receive together what they once said to themselves — and what the others wrote for them.

🧑‍🎓 A graduating class going their separate ways.

Students leaving university, on the eve of their last presentation, each write a few lines to the version of themselves that will exist in three years. They receive those lines all at once, on the same morning, with everyone's contributions gathered together.

🏁 Marking a transition.

A retirement, a wedding, an upcoming birth. Loved ones co-write a capsule for the person taking that step. They receive it on the chosen date, and are instantly transported back to that moment.

💪 A team.

At the start of a project, each member writes their hopes, their worries, their commitments. At the end, everyone receives what was said at the beginning. Sometimes funny. Sometimes moving. Always true.

😎 What we don't see from each other

This may be what makes this feature especially sincere: no one reads the others' contributions before the send date. Not the creator, not the participants. Everyone writes freely, without worrying about anyone's immediate reaction.

The secret is shared — but only in the future.

🫰 A small note on contribution

Creating a collective capsule involves a modest financial contribution, covering access to the service and, where applicable, storage for attached files. Nothing extravagant — payment takes just a few seconds, securely, before sharing the code.

🤗 The creator can also, if they wish, cover the access costs for their co-writers. In that case, those participants write freely, at no cost for text. They only contribute financially if they add large attachments.

What we take away

A collective capsule is not a photo album. It's not a group message thread. It's something irrevocable, slightly solemn, and yet very simple to create.

It's a promise made together to the future. 💖
